Therapy for Teens and Young Men

Being a teen or young man today is confusing. There’s tons of opportunity and yet…

With more possibility comes anxiety and stress. This is especially the case in competitive towns like Brentwood and Nashville.

Some relevant questions teens and young men have include: What school or major should I pick? Will my parents be happy with this decision? Is this the career path I truly want? How do I get a girlfriend? What should I do with my life?

And with new decisions comes new life adjustments.

We struggle to fit in. We may miss home. We join a new crowd who are also suffering. We may get lost in self-destructive behaviors as we cope with the stress. Some bottle it up. But for teens and young men (14+) who have a place where they can feel ‘rallied around’ and empowered, the uncertainty of life becomes much less overwhelming.

Support for Teens and Young Men Navigating Life

Are You Or A Loved One Experiencing?

  • Social Anxiety: Feeling intensely nervous, self-conscious, or fearful in social settings, which can lead to avoiding interactions.

  • Procrastination: Putting off tasks due to overwhelming anxiety or fear of failure, leading to last-minute rushes or incomplete work.

  • Poor Attention: Struggling to focus on schoolwork or responsibilities, often distracted by internal worries or external stimuli.

  • Avoidance and Addiction: Escaping from life's pressures through excessive gaming, social media, or substance use, which can spiral into dependency or isolation.

  • Maturity and Life Questions: Facing identity or existential questions about purpose, career, or personal values, feeling stuck or directionless. This includes fears of growing up and bodily changes.

How I can Help?

1. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT):

CBT tackles anxiety by identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, while also teaching practical strategies to face fears and reduce avoidance behaviors.

2. Internal Family Systems (IFS):

IFS helps by understanding and integrating different parts of the self, promoting harmony and reducing internal conflict that contributes to anxiety.

3. Psychoeducation and Life Skills Development:

  • Communication Skills: Enhancing your ability to express yourself can alleviate social anxiety and improve personal relationships.

  • Role-Playing Difficult Conversations: Provides a rehearsal for real-life interactions, reducing the anxiety associated with potential confrontations.

  • Personality Testing: Insights into your personality can guide career and life choices, reducing anxiety by aligning with your natural inclinations.

I help teens and young men feeling stress find certainty and confidence.

Together we explore underlying causes for these symptoms and identify solutions that make sense for their life. I help guide clients through the maze of their emotions and thoughts to a place of flexibility where they can make decisions on their own terms.

Young people have a lot of potential. They know others are starting to rely on them. They know they need to take responsibility. But it’s not so obvious how they do that, or who can help them confront these problems.

If any of this sounds like what you or a loved one is struggling with, I’d be happy to chat and see if this would be a helpful option. Online therapy is also available. Please call 615.326.9492 or fill out the form below to schedule a time to chat.
